Why live in Sale, Manchester?

It’s pretty easy to answer the question “Why live in Sale?” Its proximity to Manchester city centre, the thriving independent food and drink scene and its enviable schools make Sale the complete package.

Just five miles from Manchester city centre with great connectivity, locals will tell you that one of the best things about living in Sale is the strong community.

Combine this with the wide open spaces, canal-side walks and the redevelopment of central Stanley Square into a home for lots of dining and retail options, and it’s no wonder the Sunday Times named Sale one of the best places to live in the UK in 2023, suggesting it was: “finally emerging from the shadow of its bigger sister, Altrincham”.

The benefits of a home in Sale for families

There are many benefits for families of a home in Sale – from the great choices of open spaces to lots of leisure options.

There’s a council-run leisure centre, miniature railway in Walton Park and Sale Water Park, which offers canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing and sailing.

For active kids, there’s a great playground in Worthington Park and they could join Sale Communities Junior Football Club or learn a martial art at one of many local clubs.

For a calmer pace, the town’s library is based at the Waterside Arts Centre where you can also watch community theatre and live music.

If you’ve already got an eye on which school you want your children to go to, Sale is a brilliant option. Living in Sale gets you access to Sale Grammar School, judged outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in 2022. Kids take an entrance test to qualify for a place at this free grammar school, which runs from age 11 to 18.

Sale High School is also well-thought of and recently maintained its good Ofsted judgement (report December 2024).
